A little more about spirulina, the star superfood in our Crispy Almond Butter Brussels
It grows in high-salt alkaline water reservoirs in subtropical and tropical areas including America, Mexico, Asian and Central Africa.
As early as 400 years ago spirulina was consumed by the Mayas, Toltecs and Kanembu in Mexico.
In the middle of the 70’s Spirulina was promoted as high nutritional food to fight against starvation and malnutrition.
Fun fact! Spirulina was also recommended by NASA and the ESA as one of the primary foods for astronauts during long space travel.
